This is a video of a real scale (1:1) six floor reinforced concrete building, tested on a shake table with a 100% simulation of Kobe's earthquake.
At 1min. and 10sec. into the
video we can clearly see what effect has an abrupt change in the lateral
stiffness of a vertical element. Clearly something to account for in the design
process!

It is an interesting video. It clearly shows that how an ideal ductile concrete frame six story building reacts to the ground motion. However the results can not be used on the retrofitting of existing buildings due to unknown factors, such as ductility, code used, construction details, etc.
